Borneo Trips From Kerala, Into the Oldest Jungle on Earth

Rainforest older than the Amazon, rivers full of wildlife, and the orange ape that shares most of our story. Tell us your dates, and we take you in.

Why Borneo

The Wildest Green Left in Asia.

The Wildest Green Left in Asia.

Borneo is the third largest island in the world, and much of it is still rainforest. This forest has stood for over a hundred million years, longer than the Amazon, and it shelters animals found nowhere else, orangutans, pygmy elephants, proboscis monkeys with their comic noses, and hornbills crossing the canopy. Travel here is built around encounters. A river cruise at dawn, a feeding platform where a wild orangutan swings in, a night walk when the jungle turns loud. Between the wild days sit comfortable lodges, island beaches, and easy city stops. The island is bigger than most people expect, so the trip is really a set of choices, and we help you make them well.

Jungle, River, Reef

The Corners That Make the Trip.

Most journeys land in Malaysian Borneo and combine two or three of these, wildlife first, comfort close behind.

  • Kota Kinabalu

    Kota Kinabalu

The seaside capital of Sabah and the island's main gateway

Markets on the waterfront, sunsets over the South China Sea, and Mount Kinabalu, Southeast Asia's highest peak, rising behind the city.

  • Sepilok and Sandakan

    Sepilok and Sandakan

Home of the famous orangutan rehabilitation centre, where orphaned apes learn the forest again

The sun bear conservation centre sits next door, and both give close encounters that stay with you.

  • The Kinabatangan River

    The Kinabatangan River

    Sabah's great wildlife river

Lodges sit on its banks, and morning and evening boat safaris pass proboscis monkeys, crocodiles, hornbills, and, with luck, pygmy elephants at the water's edge.

  • Mulu National Park

    Mulu National Park

A UNESCO World Heritage site of rainforest and limestone, holding some of the largest caves on the planet

At dusk, millions of bats spiral out of Deer Cave in ribbons across the sky.

The Face in the Trees

Meeting the Orangutan

An Ape That Shares Almost All Our Story
Sepilok and the Wild Rivers

An Ape That Shares Almost All Our Story

Orangutan means "person of the forest" in Malay, and spending a morning near one explains the name. They live only on Borneo and Sumatra, and Sepilok's rehabilitation centre is the surest place to see them close, orphaned young apes climbing, tumbling, and learning to be wild again on open forest platforms. The deeper thrill is the river. On the Kinabatangan, a guide cuts the boat engine, points into the canopy, and there sits a wild orangutan building its evening nest, bending branches with slow, deliberate hands. No fences, no schedule, just the forest deciding to show you its most famous face.

This Forest Was Old Before the Amazon Began.
Worth Knowing

This Forest Was Old Before the Amazon Began.

Borneo's rainforest has grown continuously for around 130 million years, which makes it one of the oldest on earth, older than the Amazon. Dinosaurs walked under earlier versions of these same trees. That age shows in the variety: thousands of plant species, carnivorous pitcher plants, the giant Rafflesia flower that blooms nearly a metre wide, and wildlife that evolved here and nowhere else. Walking in it feels less like visiting a park and more like entering something that has simply always been there. Few places on the planet give that feeling anymore.

Wild Days, Soft Landings, Your Mix.
Your Borneo, Balanced Right

Wild Days, Soft Landings, Your Mix.

The trick with Borneo is balance. Too much jungle without a break tires young travellers, and too little wastes the flight. So we build the trip in rhythms: a wildlife stretch on the rivers, a comfort stretch by the sea or in the city, and the connections timed so no day is lost to waiting. Tell us your dates, who is coming, and how wild you want it, full explorer or gentle nature, and we return a day-by-day plan with flights from Kerala, lodges, boats, and guides arranged. Adjust anything before we book.

FAQ

Questions with useful answers

Borneo is a large island in Southeast Asia shared by Malaysia, Indonesia, and Brunei. Most trips visit Malaysian Borneo, the states of Sabah and Sarawak, where the wildlife centres, river lodges, and national parks are easiest to reach.

Malaysian Borneo follows Malaysia's entry rules, which are currently simple for Indian passport holders. Requirements can change, so we confirm exactly what applies to your dates when we plan the trip.

Roughly March to October brings the driest weather and the easiest wildlife viewing. Borneo sits on the equator, so short rain can come any day of the year, and the jungle stays rewarding in every month.

At the Sepilok rehabilitation centre, sightings are close and very reliable. In the wild along the Kinabatangan, sightings depend on the forest's mood, which is exactly what makes them special. We plan both so you get certainty and the chance of magic.

Yes, and children often love it most. Orangutans, boat rides, and night walks beat any screen. We pace family trips gently, with comfortable lodges and rest days by the beach or pool.

Six to eight days covers the orangutans, a river safari, and Kota Kinabalu comfortably. Ten days adds Mulu's caves or island time. Tell us your dates and we will shape the right fit.
