China Tour From Kochi, the Great Wall, Fast Trains, and City Lights

Walk on a wall that crosses mountains, ride a train quicker than a plane at takeoff, and watch Shanghai light up from a river boat. Two escorted group tours run from Kochi, and one of them carries on to Macau and Hong Kong.

Why China

One Country, Old and New at Once.

One Country, Old and New at Once.

China holds more than 1.4 billion people, spreads across the width of five time zones, and still keeps its oldest treasures standing. In Beijing, emperors' palaces sit a short drive from Olympic stadiums. In Shanghai, a garden built centuries ago rests under a skyline of glass towers. Few countries put the past and the future this close together. Fortune runs two escorted journeys here. The 7 day China tour covers Beijing and Shanghai, with a glass platform walk high above a gorge. The 10 day China Hong Kong Macau tour takes the same two cities, then flies south for Macau's old squares and Hong Kong's harbour. Both leave from Kochi with the whole plan arranged.

Stone Watchtowers Past the Horizon

The Great Wall is one of the Seven Wonders of the World and the symbol of China itself. It runs 3,946 miles across hills and ridges, rising and falling with the land, its watchtowers standing where soldiers once kept guard. Photos show its shape. Only your own two feet on the stone show its size. Both tours give the Wall a full excursion morning. The same day carries on to a jade factory, a photo stop at the Bird's Nest Olympic Stadium and the Water Cube, a Chinese lunch, the gardens of the Summer Palace, and the Temple of Heaven, built in 1420 with a round north half for heaven and a square south half for earth.

Two Trains Worth the Ticket Alone.
Worth knowing

Two Trains Worth the Ticket Alone.

Getting around China is part of the sightseeing. Between Beijing and Shanghai, the group rides the high-speed bullet train, gliding between the two great cities at speeds Indian highways can only dream about. In Shanghai comes the second ride: the Maglev, a magnetic train that floats above its track and touches 431 kilometres per hour. Children press their faces to the window for it, and so do most adults. Both tours include both rides.

Both routes run as they're planned, but neither has to stay fixed. Extend a city, drop a stop, travel on your own dates instead of the group's, or shift the hotel category up or down. Tell the team what the trip should look like and they'll rework either route before you book.
