Macau Tour From Kochi, Old Squares, Casino Lights, and a Tower Over the Sea

Stand under a church front that outlived its own church, walk squares paved in Portuguese patterns, and watch the casino lights switch on at dusk. Macau is the seventh day of our 10 day escorted tour from Kochi, between Shanghai and Hong Kong.

Why Macau

Two Flags, One Small City.

Two Flags, One Small City.

Portugal ran this little port for more than 400 years and handed it back to China in 1999. The mix stayed behind. Chinese temples sit near pastel European buildings, and the old streets at the centre of the city are listed together as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A short walk away, some of the brightest casino floors in Asia light up the night. Fortune reaches Macau on the 10 day China Hong Kong Macau tour ex Kochi. The group flies in from Shanghai, covers the full city tour the same day, spends the evening among the lights, and crosses the sea bridge to Hong Kong the next morning. One day, used well.

A Church Front With the Sky Behind It

The church went up in the 1600s, when Macau was Portugal's door to the East. Fire later took everything except the front wall, and that carved stone face has stood on its own ever since, framed by a long flight of steps. Look through its empty windows and you see open sky, which is exactly why every visitor stops here first. The same city tour carries on to the A-Ma Temple, the Kum Lam statue, Leal Senado Square, and the Macau Tower, where deck entry is already in your ticket. By evening, the group is free for the famous side of Macau.

One Evening of Lights, One Road Over the Sea.
Worth knowing

One Evening of Lights, One Road Over the Sea.

Macau after dark is its own sight. The evening is kept free, so you can walk the casino floors, try your luck, or simply watch the buildings glow. The next morning brings the second show: the coach rolls onto the Hong Kong Zhuhai Macau Bridge, 55 kilometres of cable bridges, an undersea tunnel, and four man made islands, the longest sea crossing on earth. In Macau, even leaving is part of the tour.
