Itinerary

Day by Day Plan

Kochi to the end of the world, across the Drake Passage to the Antarctic Peninsula and back.

Day01
The outbound flight from Cochin to Mumbai

The group assembles at Cochin International Airport at 5:00 PM for departure formalities and flies to Mumbai, arriving at 10:25 PM. Transfer to the international terminal for onward check-in.

Day02

Check-in for the international flight begins at 1:00 AM, flying via Addis Ababa to Buenos Aires. On arrival in Argentina's capital, a local representative welcomes the group and transfers everyone to the hotel. The rest of the day is free.

Overnight in Buenos Aires.

Day03

An early flight carries the group to Ushuaia, the resort town at the southern tip of Argentina known as the End of the World, set between the Martial Range and the Beagle Channel. The day is free to explore.

Overnight in Ushuaia.

Day04

A relaxed morning in Ushuaia for museums or the leather markets. In the mid-afternoon, the group boards the expedition ship. After a safety briefing, the Captain's Welcome Dinner marks the start of the voyage south.

Overnight on board.

Day05

A day at sea to settle into the ship. The Expedition Leader presents the IAATO rules of conduct for Antarctic landings and explains how zodiac outings work. Lectures cover the history and wildlife of the region, and albatrosses and cape petrels follow the ship.

Overnight on board.

Day06

The crossing continues over the stretch of ocean between Cape Horn and the Antarctic Peninsula, around 1,000 kilometres wide and known for moods that range from calm to wild. Seabirds and whales appear along the way.

Overnight on board.

Day07

First landings in Antarctica. Volcanic activity shaped these islands, and zodiac excursions bring the group ashore among chinstrap and gentoo penguins, with elephant seals and fur seals on the icy beaches and whales in the surrounding water. With extra time, a visit to the black sand and rusted whaling ruins of Deception Island is a highlight.

Overnight on board.

Day08

A second day exploring the island chain, which lies about 120 kilometres north of the Antarctic Peninsula.

Overnight on board.

Day09–11

Three days deep in the Peninsula's bays and channels, moving between landing sites as ice and weather allow. Penguins, seals, and whales along the coastline and in the sea, stops at scientific bases and historic sites, and for those who sign up, a night of camping on the ice.

Overnight on board.

Day12

The ship turns north. The expedition team hosts a highlights slideshow, a passenger photo contest, and storytelling from the voyage, with seabirds gliding alongside.

Overnight on board.

Day13

A final day sailing scenic waters framed by mountains, with a farewell celebration dinner on board.

Overnight on board.

Day14

Disembark after breakfast, bid farewell to the expedition team, and fly to Buenos Aires. The rest of the day is at leisure.

Overnight in Buenos Aires.

Day15

A half-day tour of the city: the Obelisk, Plaza de Mayo, Plaza San Martin, the grand avenues including 9 de Julio, and the neighbourhoods of La Boca, San Telmo, Palermo, and Recoleta. In the evening, transfer to the airport for the return journey.

Day16

Transit through Addis Ababa Bole International Airport for the connecting flight to Mumbai.

Day17

After immigration in Mumbai, a domestic flight returns the group to Cochin, where the journey ends.
