Itinerary

Day by Day

Kochi to Bali, Uluwatu at dusk, the mountain lake temples and Tanah Lot, a full Nusa Penida day, and Bali Safari before the flight home.

Day01
Singapore skyline, the change point en route to Bali

The group meets at Cochin International Airport. After check-in, customs and emigration, the flight departs for Bali with a change at Singapore, and arrival comes the next day.

Day02

Land at Denpasar International Airport, where our guide waits outside the baggage hall. The first stop is an Indian lunch, then check-in at the Kuta hotel. In the evening, the coach heads to Uluwatu Temple, a Balinese sea temple among the island's six holiest sanctuaries, honouring Sang Hyang Widhi Wasa in his form as Rudra. It stands on the edge of a cliff about 70 metres above the sea, on a rock folklore calls part of Dewi Danu's ship turned to stone. A small shrine stood here long ago, the sage Empu Kuturan enlarged it in the 11th century, and the sage Dang Hyang Nirartha is credited with its padmasana shrines.

Dinner and overnight in Kuta. Meals: lunch, dinner.

Day03

The road climbs into north Bali. Wanagiri Hidden Hill comes first, a hillside of photo points on the Munduk–Wanagiri highway, looking over the hills and lakes of Buleleng. Next is Handara Gate at Pancasari village near Bedugul, the tall Balinese gateway that marks the step from the everyday world into a sacred one. Then Ulun Danu Temple on the shore of Lake Bratan, a major Shaivite temple built in 1633 for Dewi Danu, goddess of the waters; its 11-tier meru honours Shiva and Parvathi, a Buddha statue sits within, and when the water rises the temple seems to float. After lunch the route drops to the coast for Tanah Lot, the shrine on a sea rock where the sage Nirartha rested in the 16th century; its main deity is Dewa Baruna, and if the weather is kind the sun sets right behind it.

Dinner and overnight in Kuta. Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner.

Day04

A full day on Nusa Penida. Crystal Bay opens the morning, a calm beach with clear water. Then Kelingking Beach, where the cliff below the viewpoint takes the shape of a T-Rex. Broken Beach follows, a natural stone archway over the sea, and the day closes at Angel's Billabong, a natural infinity pool in the rocks by the ocean. Back to the Kuta hotel for the night.

Overnight in Kuta. Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner.

Day05

The day goes to Bali Safari and Marine Park at Gianyar, part of the Taman Safari Indonesia group, set on 40 hectares and home to more than 1,000 animals from around 100 species — Komodo dragons, orangutans, the Bali starling and the Sumatran elephant among them. The safari journey passes hog deer, Bali cattle, the crocodile zone, mouse deer and tapir, with orangutans, lutungs and honey bears, plus leopards and African animals, and the day includes the elephant show and the tiger show. Later comes Tegenungan Waterfall at Kemenuh village on the Petanu River in Gianyar, close to the artist village of Ubud.

Dinner, then back to the hotel. Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner.

Day06

After breakfast, check out and transfer to Ngurah Rai International Airport for the flight home via Singapore, carrying the island back with you.

Meals: breakfast.
