Our representative receives the group at Cochin Airport for the flight to Kathmandu. On arrival, transfer to the hotel.
Overnight in Kathmandu. Meals: dinner.
The day opens at Pashupatinath, five kilometres east of the city, the temple of Lord Shiva famed for its two-tiered golden roof and silver doors, with the full temple life visible from the eastern bank of the Bagmati. Next comes Boudhanath, the colossal ancient stupa eight kilometres east, among the biggest in the world. After lunch, climb to Swayambhunath, said to be 2,000 years old, where the all-seeing eyes of the Buddha watch from four sides of the spire, then finish with Durbar Square and the sleeping Vishnu of Jal Narayan Temple.
Overnight in Kathmandu. Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner.
The coach heads west along the highway, stopping at Kurintar, where Nepal's first cable car climbs in about ten minutes to the Manakamana Devi Temple. The shrine of goddess Bhagwati sits on a ridge 1,302 metres above sea level, looking over the Trisuli valley to the south and the Marshyangdi to the west, and devotees believe the goddess grants wishes. In winter the ridge rises like an island above the morning mist. The drive continues to Pokhara for an evening arrival.
Overnight in Pokhara. Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner.
Sightseeing begins at nine with the Sethi river, whose deep gorges around the town draw visitors from everywhere. Then comes Fewa Lake, the biggest in Pokhara, followed by Devi's waterfall, where travellers try their luck tossing coins onto the statue in the luck pond and photograph the model Nepali house and figures in traditional dress. The day closes at Gupteshwar, the cave shrine of Lord Shiva.
Overnight in Pokhara. Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner.
The road runs south to Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha. Siddhartha Gautama was born here in 623 B.C. in the famous gardens, and the site became a place of pilgrimage soon after, drawing Emperor Ashoka, who raised one of his commemorative pillars on the spot. The area is developed as a Buddhist pilgrimage centre, with the archaeological remains of the birth site at its heart.
Overnight near Lumbini. Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner.
After breakfast, the coach crosses to Gorakhpur. Check in to the hotel and rest for the early journey home.
Overnight in Gorakhpur. Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner.
