Spain Trips From Kerala, Built Around What You Want to See

Moorish palaces in the south, Gaudí's unfinished cathedral in the east, green mountains and pilgrim roads in the north. Tell us which Spain you want, and we plan the route.

Why Spain

One Country, and Not One Country at All.

One Country, and Not One Country at All.

Spain does not behave like a single place. Andalusia in the south carries eight hundred years of Moorish rule in its palaces, its courtyards and its water gardens. Catalonia in the east speaks its own language and builds like nowhere else on earth. The north is green, wet and mountainous, with a coastline of fishing towns that happen to cook some of the best food in Europe. The centre is high, dry meseta with Madrid sitting on top of it. What holds it together is the rhythm. Late lunches, later dinners, and long evenings when whole towns come out to walk. Travellers from Kerala tend to settle into it quickly, because the pace is familiar and the food is generous. It is a country that rewards choosing two or three regions properly rather than trying to see all of it.

North to South

Four Spains, and How They Differ.

Most trips join two of these, and what you want decides which two.

  • Andalusia and the South

    Andalusia and the South

    The Moorish heart

The Alhambra above Granada, the Mezquita in Córdoba, the Alcázar and the flamenco quarters of Seville, and white hill towns scattered between them. Hot in summer, glorious in spring and autumn.

  • Barcelona and Catalonia

    Barcelona and Catalonia

A city that builds like nowhere else

Gaudí's Sagrada Família and Park Güell, the Gothic Quarter's medieval lanes, a working port city with beaches inside it, and the Costa Brava coastline within reach to the north.

  • Madrid and the Centre

    Madrid and the Centre

The capital, and the great art museums

The Prado, the Reina Sofía and the Thyssen, within walking distance of each other. Toledo and Segovia sit close by as day trips, both older than Madrid and both worth the journey.

  • The North and the Camino

    The North and the Camino

    Green Spain

San Sebastián and Bilbao on the Basque coast, the Guggenheim, the pintxos bars, and Santiago de Compostela at the end of the pilgrim route that has run across the top of the country for a thousand years.

The Palace on the Hill

An Afternoon Inside the Alhambra

Eight Hundred Years of Water, Stone and Light
Granada

Eight Hundred Years of Water, Stone and Light

The Alhambra sits on a ridge above Granada with the snow of the Sierra Nevada behind it, and it is the finest surviving work of Moorish architecture anywhere in Europe. What strikes people is not scale but detail. Walls carved into lacework, ceilings built to look like honeycomb, courtyards laid out around still water that doubles everything above it. Then there are the Generalife gardens on the slope beside it, terraced and channelled with running water everywhere, built as a summer retreat when Granada was the last Moorish kingdom on the peninsula. Entry is limited and slots sell out weeks ahead, particularly for the Nasrid Palaces, which is precisely the kind of thing worth having handled for you before you fly.

The Country Eats Late, and It Is Worth Adjusting To.
Worth Knowing

The Country Eats Late, and It Is Worth Adjusting To.

Lunch in Spain runs from two, dinner rarely before nine, and many kitchens do not open before then. Travellers who fight this end up eating badly in the wrong places. Travellers who go with it get the country at its best. The answer in between is tapas, small plates eaten standing at a bar in the early evening, moving from one to the next rather than settling in one place. In the Basque north the same idea is called pintxos and it is close to a national sport. Vegetarian eating has improved enormously in the cities, and we make sure your route accounts for it rather than leaving it to chance.

Tell Us the Regions, We Build the Rest.
Built Around Your Dates

Tell Us the Regions, We Build the Rest.

A Spain trip is mostly a question of which regions and in what order, because the country is large and the internal connections matter. High speed trains link Madrid, Seville, Córdoba and Barcelona quickly and comfortably, which changes what is possible in a week. The north needs more time and a different approach. Send us your dates, your headcount, and the one place you would be disappointed to miss. We come back with a route, the stays, the flights from Kerala, the internal connections timed, and the timed-entry tickets that need booking ahead already accounted for. Change what you like, add days, or take it as sent. It stays your trip until you tell us it is right.

FAQ

Questions with useful answers

Yes. Spain is in the Schengen area, so Indian passport holders need a Schengen visa. We support the full application as part of your planning, and appointments book out, so an early start keeps the process easy.

A week covers two regions comfortably, say Madrid with Andalusia, or Barcelona with the coast. Ten days to a fortnight lets you take three without rushing. Trying to cross the whole country in a week is the one mistake worth avoiding.

Spring and autumn, particularly for the south, where summer heat in Seville and Córdoba is serious. Summer suits the northern coast and the mountains. Winter is mild in Andalusia and quiet everywhere, which some travellers prefer.

High speed trains connect Madrid, Seville, Córdoba, Málaga and Barcelona quickly and comfortably, and they are usually better than internal flights for those routes. The north and the hill towns work better by road. We build the connections into your plan.

Better than its reputation suggests, especially in the cities, where vegetarian and Indian restaurants are easy to find. Outside them it needs a little planning, which is exactly what we do when building your route.

Very. Distances between the main cities are covered by comfortable trains, the cities are walkable, and the pace of the day is relaxed rather than rushed. The main thing to plan around is summer heat in the south, which we do by choosing the month and the timing of each day.
