Nepal Tour From Kochi, Temples and Lakes

Stand on the banks of the Bagmati at Pashupatinath, ride Nepal's first cable car to a wish-fulfilling temple, and end at Lumbini, where the Buddha was born. Fortune's 7-day escorted tour from Kochi covers the holiest circuit in the Himalaya, and Indian travellers need no visa at all.

Why Nepal

The Holy Land Next Door.

The Holy Land Next Door.

Few trips carry this much meaning in one week. Nepal holds Pashupatinath, one of the holiest Shiva temples anywhere, and Lumbini, the garden where the Buddha was born, with the white Himalaya standing behind it all. For travellers from Kerala, it is also the easiest border to cross: no visa, with a passport or even a Voter ID doing the job. Fortune runs Nepal as a 7-day escorted group tour ex Kochi, flying into Kathmandu and home through Gorakhpur, with the temples, the cable car, and the lake town of Pokhara lined up in between.

The darshan the trip is built around

An Evening at Pashupatinath.

Pashupatinath Temple and the Bagmati river ghats, Kathmandu
Pashupatinath Temple

Shiva's House on the Bagmati

Pashupatinath stands five kilometres east of Kathmandu on the banks of the holy Bagmati river, its two-tiered golden roof and silver doors marking one of the holiest Shiva temples anywhere. From the eastern bank, the whole temple and the life around it open up in one view: priests, pilgrims, bells, and the river running through the middle of it all. For travellers from Kerala, this is the stop the whole week bends around, and the tour gives it a full unhurried visit, with Boudhanath and Swayambhunath following the same day.

The Wish Granted by Cable Car.
Worth the ride

The Wish Granted by Cable Car.

On the drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara, the coach stops at Kurintar, where Nepal's first cable car climbs to the Manakamana Devi Temple in about ten minutes. The shrine of goddess Bhagwati sits on a ridge 1,302 metres up, looking over the Trisuli and Marshyangdi river valleys, and pilgrims believe the goddess grants the wishes of those who reach her. In winter mornings the ridge floats above a sea of mist. Not many temple visits begin with a ride like this one.

The group flies from Kochi to Kathmandu, travels the route by AC deluxe coach, and flies home from Gorakhpur International Airport after Lumbini, with both flights part of the package.

It is an optional add-on at extra cost, arranged on request. Tell the desk while booking and it slots into your Kathmandu days.

Kathmandu to Pokhara runs about 215 kilometres and roughly eight hours with stops, and Pokhara to Lumbini about 130 kilometres in around four. The coach is a pushback AC deluxe, and the mountain views do much of the entertaining.

Yes. Extra lake days in Pokhara, a private group on your own dates, or a gentler pace for older travellers can all be built in. Ask the desk, and the fresh plan comes back with its price before you commit.
